I was looking up births of various McGuirk families and found a birth on Irish genealogy for Feb 23rd 1918 of James McGuirk and the address is listed as Concrete, Dundrum. Father is a finisher at Dye Works. I can't manage to screen save the entry !! to show it here. I also cannot find Concrete. Has anyone ever heard of it and where exactly it was?

Can't see anywhere called Concrete on the 1897-1913 map but this was the townland and area for Milltown. Iron foundries and mills abound.

Yes, I've found a birth cert with the 'Concrete, Milltown' address too, but don't know anything about the place.

It is our gang. And a very unusual name, I had to look twice when I came across it.

From the map viewer at reply #3, I've been looking for the addresses of the siblings of James. Here's what comes up:
Sarah 1908
Concrete

Mary 1911
Bankside Cottages

Bridget 1910
Hacketts Cottages

Elizabeth 1914
Concrete

Jane 1916
Bankside Cottages

I can't find Hacketts Cottages on the map but Bankside Cottages is there so maybe the place known as Concrete was also in the vicinity. Mary McGuirk (mother) registered all the births, so they probaly moved around a bit.

This reference to the Census of Ireland 1891 shows (under Taney parish at the foot of the page) Milltown or Concrete Town.
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01rek/
The footnote (i)
Milltown now known as Concrete Town stands on the townland of Farranboley . It has an estimated area of two acres.
I wish we could find out why it has the name though.
