Thanks for the search hints, shellyesq. I eventually found my 2 young cousins on the next page by searching for the neighbours (instead of Clifford they were under Chfford so it looks like the 'li' was read as 'h')

Is the 1950 census supposed to include Overseas locations (e.g. Europe, UK)? I can see the drop-down menu includes several American territories. What happens if one has a US citizen in their family tree that is serving with the military in the UK or Europe in 1950?  :-\  Were they included in census taking?
The person I really need to find lived in various locations with a common surname but I known he arrived in California in July 1951 from Okinawa so could be there for 1950 census.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

It looks like overseas military personnel were enumerated for statistical purposes only but not recorded on Form P1, 1950 Census of Population and Housing.

Thanks, Erato. I'm not surprised and not finding this person at all is better than finding him with the wrong family  ;D

Well then...it's a good job my chap was stationed in the USA when the 1950 census was taken.  :D
Now that I've worked out his unit, I know it was only overseas for several months at a time. Then back to the USA. Looks like they went to Japan, as well.

Got any tips for the 'page 71' problem?

Okay, here's how this works.  Taking the example from Langlade County, Wisconsin, ED 34-21.  There are 23 images for this enumeration district.  The sheet number is in the upper right hand corner of the sheet.  Image 1 = the cover sheet; image 2 = sheet 1; image 3 = sheet 2;   .....  image 20 = sheet 19; image 21 = sheet 71; image 22 = sheet 72.

It looks like my Great-Grandparents were not at home for the census - it says see Sheet 73, Lines 21 thru 24.  What's the best way of finding sheet 73?  I'm looking/searching through Ancesry.

The 7x sheets are at the end of the lot for each enumeration district.

Thanks Erato, those pages don't seem to be on Ancestry yet (https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/district-map/62308?search=Winnetka%2C+Cook%2C+Illinois%2C+USA&selection=-87.72999772219069%2C42.106144820583864) - hope that link works - at least I couldn't seem to see it.

Have tried the official 1950 census website but having worse luck there - couldn't even find the above record - so not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.
