Can anyone help me find who Florrie Wade really was?
« on: Sunday 27 March 22 23:02 BST (UK) »
Florrie Wade appears in the 1911 England Census as the daughter of Rosanna and Edward Wade. She recorded as being born c. 1898 in Wistow, Walthamstow. Florrie is indicated to be the only one of the Wade's four daughters that is still living. However, I do not believe she is the couple's biological daughter because:
  • Rosanna Wade (nee Gould) was already 48 years old in 1898
  • I can find no birth record that fits for a Florrie, Florence, Florie or Flora Wade from 1895 to 1901 with a mother's maiden name of anything close to Gould or Dover (Rosanna's first married name).
  • Florrie was born ten years after the sisters closest in age to her, Eliza and Harriet, who were born in 1888
  • Florrie does not appear in the 1901 census, despite her sister Eliza appearing there and the fact she would have been three years old here.

I'm not sure how I can work out who Florrie really was - I don't know if she was a relative of Rosanna or Edward, or if her real name even was Florrie. I have found a few workhouse records that may match, but cannot be sure. Can anybody help?

In 1911 they have a foster child aged 14 - perhaps Florrie was also fostered after 1901.  Given where she was born - there is no way she is their biological daughter

Who's child is Rosetta Turner?  Shown as grandchild but no Wade/Turner marriage.  Birthplace Bishops Stortford but no birth reg

There are 6 Dover children in 1891 with Edward and Rosanna, 5 male so can be ruled out as Rosetta's father, but have you checked whether isabella Dover married a Mr Turner

Isabella Mary A Dover married either Robert Bones or Walter Crabb in Epping District Q2 1900, unfortunately not a Turner.
