Can anybody help me find what happened to Eliza Wade?
« on: Sunday 27 March 22 23:11 BST (UK) »
Eliza Wade was born on the 8th of September 1888, with her twin sister Harriet, as the daughter of Edward Wade (1854 - ?) and Rosanna Wade (nee Gould; previously Dover) (1850 - ?). She had an older sister named Alice - however, Harriet AND Alice died soon after birth, making Eliza the only surviving child of the Wades until the birth of her sister Florrie ten years later (who I have previously posted about).

She appears in the 1901 census with her parents. However, the 1911 census states that out of the Wades' four daughters, only one is living - and the one living must be Florrie, as she appears in it. This indicates that Eliza must have, like Alice and Harriet, died - however, I can find absolutely no corresponding death record or marriage record (as she may have died under a married name). I have combed through all records that may match, and found out that they were different women.

Furthermore, in the 1911 census with her parents and sister, her name actually appears but is crossed out: 'Lizzie Wade - 23 - Single - Born in Wistow - English.'

I am very confused - can anybody help?

'Lizzie Wade - 23 - Single - Born in Wistow - English.'

It is not 'Wistow' but W'stow, which is Walthamstow.

This is the common room i.e. no indication of where any of your info. relates to on BMDs etc?

Can you please be clear on places of where & when people are on census records for others who may wish to try & help?

Town, County, Country are important & any links too to records ;)

I cannot find a Florrie /Florence Wade in birth registration.

If she was born 1898 where is she on the 1901 census?

Is she perhaps the daughter of one of Rosanna's children by her previous marriage. (Dover)

Do you know when John Gould father of Rose Ann died as it appears her mother Jane married an Alfred Day, could Florrie be a child of one of his children? Implied on census record

I can find a Florence Day registered West Ham 1898, but no Florence/Florrie Wade.

A Little off track just trying to clarify.

Rose Anne Gould was born 1849 she married age 18 to John Dover,
Children
Robert William 1867 reg. Headington Union
Johnathan 1869 reg. Edmonton
Frederick 1871        ditto
Charles 1872
Esther Eliza 1874
William 1876
Isabella Mary Ann 1876
David George 1879

Her husband John Dover died 24 February 1885

She marries Edward Wade 9 August 1885, by this time she is 35 years old. (32 in 1881)

1891 says she is 40 s/b 42

By the time Florrie is born 1897/8 she would have been 49 years old. It's unlikely for her to be the mother.

Note in 1891 census her children named Dover have been listed as Wade, even though the image has Dover. Notified ancestry.

Whilst this does not answer your original post does the 1921 census offer any clues. It would appear that the mother Rose Hannah Wade died in 1932 (age out) in West Ham. She left a probate record in 1936 showing she is the wife of Edward Wade, living in Walthamstow etc. A possible death for Edward is in 1935 Essex S W (which includes Walthamstow)

The administration (with Will) for Rose Hannah was granted to Edgar Bennett, slating clerk.

There is a marriage 1920, West Ham for Edgar Bennett and Eliza Wade.

The will for £1.50 for Rosa would make interesting reading. She died 1932 but probate was not granted until 1936 and then names Edgar Bennett and not Eliza. Could this be Eliza's death in 1935.

Deaths Dec 1935
Bennett    Eliza    aged 46 = c 1889    Essex South Western    4a   257

Probate record of an Eliza Bennett who died 6th November 1935, Stoneydown, Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow, wife of Edgar Bennett occ Slaring Clerk.

This is the same address as Rosa death in 1932 naming Edgar with the same occupation. The marriage cert in 1920 would confirm Eliza's father but I do think we have found her.

John

Added : Edward, Rosa and Eliza were living at Stoneydown, Blackhorse Road Walthamstow in 1911 census. Pretty conclusive evidence
