I'm getting some geographical bearings and making a list of details I know so far noting addresses etc

So if I'm correct Atherton is between Liverpool and Manchester

St Helens covers the area of Leigh and
The Prescot mentioned is a smallish town .

Looking for any  connections to Yorkshire .

Information and locations on their Home pages on Lancashire Online Parish clerks website:

Atherton, location & history
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Atherton/index.html

St. Helens
www.lan-opc.org.uk/St-Helens/index.html

Prescot
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Prescot/index.html

Leigh
www.lan-opc.org.uk/Leigh/index.html
Maps include civil parishes and townships, Poor Law Unions, changes in local government administration districts + 1843 OS map.

GENUKI is a useful site for finding out where places are and what resources exist and where they are kept. An internet search for genuki and name of a place and county e.g. Atherton Lancashire should provide information including location,  description and brief history, list of churches and cemeteries, maps &c. Selecting heading "Nearby Places" or "Nearby Churches" + a distance in miles brings up maps which can be adjusted for size.
It's a volunteer site so information varies. https://www.genuki.org.uk

                   ***************
Connection to Yorkshire may be mining. Some Cornish miners went to live in a Lancashire coalfield.
One of my 3xGGFs who was a boilermaker moved about a bit. Born around 1820 in Kirkham, north of Preston, Lancashire. Lived in Preston when a young man. Went to Yorkshire for a few years where 1 child was born. Returned to Lancashire, to Bolton (cotton mills, mines &c.), then back to Preston. Wife died. Married a miner's widow from Leigh; I assume his work took him there. Returned to Preston.

overloaded with information and dont know where to start ..would really like to help this match and the nonegaenarian from the Cornthwaite side. +

after  years of experience branching  into DNA fields i seem to have forgotten the basics and go off at tangents on whims . what should i prioritize

They are zooming in on father's father + I'm concluding the Father's mother must be  Mary Ellen  EDEN .
The one I've found the least about so far !

Was she the Mary Ellen Eden who married at St. John the Baptist, Atherton 1931? Bride's father Joseph, deceased.

I'm getting some geographical bearings and making a list of details I know so far noting addresses etc

Back North Street 1911
Bag lane
Freshfield s road  1957 ( Gertrude)
Watson's place 1913

May be significant addresses

Address of Amelia Roberts was 1 Bag Lane when she married Joseph Eden in 1905. Joseph was a widower*.

Arthur Eden and Mary Ellen Stott both gave 18 Bag Lane as their address when they married at St. John the Baptist, Atherton in 1907. They later moved to Defiance Street. A daughter married from Defiance Street in 1941.

*A previous marriage St. Michael & All Angels, Atherton 1891, bride Jane Hilton.

Arthur EDEN is a new one for me
I have some STOTT DNA matches but that must be coincidence
( have researched STOTT for my cousin Mary E b1901 ...d.1908 in a fire in BARNSLEY  cinema hall along with her brother and many other children ..unneccessary information ?).

so if Arthur married in 1907 was he Josephs brother ?.
.(straying off course here   as DNA is thru the wives not the husbands )

1 Bag End was cited for  the CORNTHWAITE s when back from South Africa baptising their daughters . Mrs Emma CORNTHWAITE was Mrs Amelia EDEN.s sister  ( nee ROBERTS )  of BAG END

as on the 1901 census posted below (very helpful julieheather as although i DO have it i cant copy details in a block so it makes things clearer for those following )

thanks for continued interest TIME TRAVEL DETECTIVE WORK never ends (also need to resolve mystery of why Ancestry no longer sends email alerts to tell tree owners they have messages )

If you look on this map, at the top it says Bolton Union, underneath is Bag Lane. It goes right through the town centre.
