Robert Mercer/Macer/Masor b1620 Bottisham

Hi All,

I am trying to verify the following information regarding this person:

Robert Macer baptised 17 Apr 1620 Bottisham to Henry & Anne; siblings Elizabeth 1621, Henry 1625, Ann 1628, Susanna 1630 & Mary 1633.

Robert is supposed to have married Anne Diss b1620 in 1641 but I cannot locate that marriage, any children or her death.

Robert then marries Frances (surname unknown born c1630) in 1650 which I cannot locate.  There are three children born in Pampisford; John 1653, Robert 1656 and dies that year, and Thomas 1656.  I cannot locate the death of Frances but believe it to be late 1656 or early 1657.

Robert marries a third time to Mary Darbie (b1638 Fowlmere) in 1657 at Whittlesford.  I can locate five children all born in Pampisford; Robert 1660/1, Mary 1662/3, John 1665, Elizabeth 1668, Henry 1673.  Given the gaps there may well be others.

You will also see that he had two sons named John born 1653 and 1665.  I cannot locate a death for the first one to exclude him as the most likely husband in the marriage John Mercer to Elizabeth Swan in 1677 at Pampisford.

Any help is always appreciated.

Boyds marriage index has the 1641 marriage at Little Abington - no other information regarding date

Looks like another daughter for Robert and Mary Macer at Whittlesford -Margaret 26.9.1658 and a son George at Pampisford 4 Dec 1670.

I have done a bit more work on this and offer up the following for consideration (all events are at Pampisford unless noted otherwise):

Robert Mercer marries Susan Headley 16 Apr 1629 and they have Susan jnr 29 Jun 1632.  Susan snr dies and is buried 16 Nov 1635.

Robert Mercer married Margaret Kinge 27 Mar 1636.  They have Robert jnr 15 Jan 1636, John 27 Mar 1638 and Margaret jnr 18 Jan 1640.  Margaret snr dies shortly after her last maternity and is buried 27 Jan 1640, then Margaret jnr 11 Aug 1641, then John 2 Jul 1644.

Robert Mercer then married Anne Diss 29 Sep 1641 at Little Abington.  There are no located children and Anne dies and is buried in August 1644.

Robert Mercer marries for the fourth time to Frances ? around 1650.  There are two known children, John 16 Aug 1653 and Thomas 18 May 1656.  Robert snr dies and is buried 28 Jul 1656.

Robert Mercer jnr marries Mary Darbie 28 Sep 1657 (at the age if 21) at Whittlesford where they have Margaret (named after his long lost mother), they move to Pampisford where they have Robert 6 Jan 1660, Mary 15 Mar 1662, John 22 Oct 1665, Elizabeth 12 Apr 1668, George 4 Dec 1670 and Henry 15 Jun 1673.

I think this allows for the existence of two John Mercer's born 1653  and 1665 being uncle and nephew.
