Do you have a date of death, or are you saying 'around Dec' means you have a death registration from the GRO index that says her death was registered in Q4 1970?

Try a free search on the BNA and look at the results, lots are gobbledegook as the OCR often can't cope with the scans.

If you have a date of death then a notice would be within a few days of that but other than that it could mean looking through an entire 3 months of newspapers to see IF there was a notice - and possibly doing that search in both the Journal or (the more often used for these things) the Evening Chronicle.
If you can narrow down a date (probate?) or find a possible entry on a free search of the BNA, then its worth knowing that Newcastle Library Local Studies will do a free look up for you on their microfilms of the Journal or Evening Chronicle  - they need an exact date or at best 2 week time frame.

Looking at the cremation date that jonw65 found, there is a notice, not in the Journal but, as I suspected, in the Evening Chronicle on 5th Nov 1970, page 2 col 1

NB Prior to having a possible cremation date nothing I tried as a search term brought up the entry, so without a ball park date its often nigh impossible to find an entry, depending on how clear the scan is.

Will PM the details as it mentions her children and they may still be alive.

As an aside , the Book of Remembrance is online for West Road Crematorium, she died on the 3rd November according to the notice. I had a quick look but can;t see an entry for her, but you may want to check (there are multiple volumes and I only checked the first one. If an entry was placed a couple of years after her death it may be in one of the later books.
