System or chart for aligning matches
« on: Thursday 31 March 22 18:09 BST (UK) »
I don't know if this exists already or if I could use an app if it does exist

Or if I can explain what I mean

But if there is a chart which you can put cm numbers of your own cm matches top ones at top then along top:
 child  /sibling/ cousin half cousin / parent aunt / 1c1r )// 2c / 2c1r /grandfather

And fill in cm amounts of those that match you and where known those that match each other

For example along top I would have mother
And first row down would also have her top corner box our amount

Next row I'd put my cus and how he matches me and how he matches her in next column

Leaving a few rows blank for future testess or people who's relationship to each other and me unknown

Then we'd also need an algorithm ? Gadget thing

To show if I match a by X amount
And mother matche z  amount and 1st cousin matches each of us by y amount

Surely the painter DNA range narrows every time you combine another known relationship

If you are as confused as me please comment

If you can number crunch please suggest solutions

Here is a link to charts I've put side by side
I will add two people who appear as first cousin relationship to each other and how they compare to my closer family

Thanks,. , .  Added now #

Brigid...you forgot to add the link to the charts?

Have you tried the Leeds Method...

Rosin ...so I did !

I've not tried Leeds clustering method
Thanks for the hands up

Have you ...or others had success with that

I tried it out a while ago & found it very useful, my trouble was finding people with actual trees to compare info. or trees with wrong info.

For some unknown reason, people do the DNA test but don't actually participate in building a tree, it's as if they hope to find their roots via DNA alone.

I've found quite a few matches with no trees but I've used shared matches to work out possibilities & managed to do the leg work myself to find the connections.

I'm currently working on a match, no tree, no research surnames, only his own surname to follow (assuming he's a biological son) i.e. I'm going through shared matches & possibilities.

I believe he may descend from the family of my 3 x g g/m & her 1st husband?

I ve got loads of known descendants from the patriarch Jo Jones at all levels of relationships some have unlinked trees or no trees but I know who they are others we've worked out who was adopted etc .the trees that are wrong I've built a mock up myself and put their 'true " relationship

But this last one is flummoxing me ..I think it may be another case of a grandma taking in her neices child for the DNA to make sense

I'm not technological but I'm sure if the method is efficient & I can get help installing understanding and using .our Jones data base will be sufficient to confirm results

Ps thanks for commenting Annie ❣️

I did my Leeds Method chart on an Excel Spreadsheet, it's very easy to follow.

Annie Excel sheets are way beyond my technogical capacities .but that's the sort of thing I probably need

I'd like to see examples so I could understand

Am going to add my examples I've gone from thinking the 2 men are half cousins to each other and one is 3rd cousin to me
To believing they are uncle and half nephew to each other ( first cousin level)
1 is my 3c the other 3c 1r

It's interesting playing around with ideas and I do often come to conclusions that are proved after .

It's what's shown in the link I posted.

If you imagine a sheet of graph paper, it's the same idea.

You can do it offline (doesn't have to be on computer) with a notebook, ruler, pen & coloured pens/pencils.
