Maguire Maud Scarborough
« on: Saturday 02 April 22 17:04 BST (UK) »
Maud Maguire was born on 2nd August 1908 to Thomas and Catherine Maguire nee Jennings.  She was baptised at the Roman Catholic Church in Scarborough on 30th August 1908.  Her godmother was Olivia Jennings, the sister of Catherine

I can trace the rest of the family but there is no record of her in the 1911 Census (nor her parents) and no death records either.

Thomas Maguire was born in 1980. The 1921 census says it was Beverley as did his army record and also his criminal record in Bradford.  Catherine Jennings was born in 1888 in York (1921 Census)

Maybe someone has an idea of where she might be?  Thanks

Was Maud in the 1921 census?

Did they have any kids in 1921 census? (Who, when, where)?

Was she Maud? 'Cause the civil index gives her name as Norah!

Thank you for your rapid replies
Maud is nowhere to be found apart from her baptism in Scarborough.  She is certainly baptised as Maud and Latin baptism name lists do not have any alternative names

However I have found the Norah now - thanks for the tip and will see if I can investigate further. She might of course have been a twin

I have all the other members of the family - Nancy Margaret, Ellen, Olivia, Eileen, Thomas and Honora

Nancy is with her grandparents and when they lived in Kidderminster the were Jennings but for some reason moved to Scarborough and in the census were called Davis. (Maybe criminal matters?) All other records show Nancy as being a Maguire including her baptism
This is a very convoluted family!

Looks like this is Thomas in 1943. Interestingly the railway warehouse he set fire to was on Valley Road - where some of my family lived at the time! Small world.

Shipley Times and Express
17 February 1943
"SHIPLEY WAREHOUSE BLAZE Workman Committed for Trial Thomas Maguire (63), labourer of no fixed address, was committed for trial at the next Leeds Asslxes on a charge of unlawfully and maliciously setting fire to goods warehouse and contents in Valley Road ..."

Hull Daily Mail
12 March 1943
"Prison Sentence for Beverley Man - Thomas Maguire, 63. described as a labourer and a native of Beverley, was at Leeds Assizes yesterday sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment on charges maliciously setting fire to a railway goods warehouse at ..."

There is only the one birth registration and that is for Norah

Thomas went to prison several times, he did commit arson and before that smashed windows at a “relieving station” and hit his wife with a crowbar!

He was wounded in WW1 and had a drink problem.  Sadly he committed suicide throwing himself under a train in 1962

The 1907 offence is doubtful as it says he was a youth and would have been 27 in 1907
