Any chance of getting the children's names in birth order. I've got some suspicions but have to go off for a short while.

I was hoping for a naming convention  :-[

Not much info from censuses. Children were:

William 1875
Mary 1877
Isabella 1880
Elizabeth 1882

Husband was William and his father was a Thomas

I didn't see those at first,  Carole.  At least we seem to have found them all.

I was looking for hints of her mother's first name(s) but the names don't fit the naming pattern - no David or Thomas  :-\

I can't find anything in Scotland either.  All censuses are consistent with a Scottish birthplace but  I'm wondering if she was illegitimate & made up a fathers name when she married?

I've been thinking the same thing and looked on SP at the beginning - nothing at all that's promising. Nothing on the 1851-1871 that looks possible apart from the family that Forfarian found. Joseph was an Engineer and there's a young David b.c 1851. Scotland. Lots of demand for engineers in Scotland.but so far no baptism for him.

I really really appreciate everyone’s efforts, thank you.
I think I might never find who her parents were. I’m particularly invested in her maternal lines as it relates to a mtDNA match with my Mum

This might not be related but worth following up the Considine family.

I've found a marriage between a James Considine and Jane Steuart of Belfast on 16 Aug 1819 in Leswalt which is a parish in Wigtownshire

It was in Leswalt Manse:

Jas Considine Esq ? Lieut of the ?? Regiment and Miss Jane Steuart of Belfast were married this sixteen day of  Augt 1819 after regular proclamation.

I attach  part of the entry as I can't work out whether he was a first or second lieutenant or which regiment he served in.

The Caledonian Mercury of 28-2-1811 says James Considine was promoted from Ensign to Lieutenant in the 43rd. By 1828, there are references to Major James Considine of the 43rd being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (unattached).

The 43rd were in Ireland from 1819-1823 and in Gibraltar from 1823-1836.
