I have solid evidence that my gggGrandfather Alfred Winfield did have parents David and Charlotte as they were named on his discharge papers from the Royal Marine Light Infantry - annoyingly no address

Weren't they both dead by then?

Good spot - yes Charlotte 1868 for sure and Alfred's discharge was 1876

Wonder why the discharge mentions them both?

South Shields, London - Stobbs, Winfield
Banham - Limmer
Wilts, S.Wales - Comley
Oxfordshire - Kinch, Gomm, Probbitts

I was wondering that too. Can you post an image of that bit?

Charlotte was a widow in 1868 per the prison registers.

So it was a standard question at discharge for RMLI? There's nothing like that in the army files of the same period!
