The medal card that ShaunJ came up with shows that Andrew Lindsay was awarded the British War medal and ribbon. The entry shows the he was in the R.N.R. i.e. the Royal Naval Reserve.

Find My Past have 3 medical records for an A. Lindsay with the service number of Z4288C -- he is shown to be in the Nelson Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. His service number is actually Z4288 with the 'C' standing for 'Clyde'. This man was from Motherwell in Scotland so can be discounted as being your man.
