FindMyPast has burials indexed under surname Unknown,  some are backed up by newspaper reports of their deaths.  I can't see anything promising at the moment, trouble is he could have moved anywhere

Thank you for looking. It's difficult to predict what somebody in his situation may have done. By 1875 he would have been 56 but having spent time in prison and then the army it seems life wasn't kind to him. I guess life for exconvicts wasn't easy. He may have lived for many more years but I'll keep on looking.
