I think this is John Hughes the father. He died in Liverpool  1887 .GRO index aged 64 and his burial at Llantisilio 24 September 1887 also confirms that he  was 64 which matches the census records.  A " native of Pwllheli " also fits.
Unfortunately there are no family members mentioned in the obituary.

If you search the newspapers for Thomas Herd there is mention of one who is also a sailor/ mariner,  possibly the father of Frances. Worth following up.

1857 Thomas Herd
This is the one, a pleasure boat is mentioned . Perhaps the census will give some more details.

I'm not too sure about the above Thomas Herd now, I have found Frances and her fathers occupation doesn't seem to fit.
It was the link with boats that gave me the idea., Perhaps your own research will decide 🙂

Oh how fascinating about Captain Hughes - and matches some of my subsequent family history without being outing. Thanks so much for this wilcoxon!

Does anyone know much about the bit that says:

'Borne to the grave by the Oddfellows being one of the last members of the Menai Bridge Lodge'? Are they like the Freemasons or something?
