Hi gennig

Yes, I realised that when I clicked on the site - anyway, I've sent for a certificate, and when it arrives, I'll have an address, which is something.

Hopefully, electoral rolls will help find Daniel;  I have no idea of young Susan's married name.

Anyway, very many thanks to you and JAP for all your help, and if ever I can return the favour don't hesitate to ask.

You can see my special areas of interest in my profile and on my website, but I search everywhere else as well.

Hi genni (and Mobo),

Genni, I see that you are in Victoria so you'll surely be better placed than I (in Adelaide) am to trace forwards :)

Genni, what did you think - I looked for Ja*s SCOTT deaths (of which there were quite a few!) but no-one with an age compatible with a 1900 birth and living in the Heidelberg area?

Possibilities on a +/- 5 basis between 1950 and 1970 might perhaps be:
*James SCOTT, William and Mary SCOTT, 55, d 1955, MELB (Melbourne) #8652
*James Henry SCOTT, Thomas and Martha HOOD, 56, d 1956, PARK (Parkville?), #15353
*James Archibald SCOTT, Samuel Garri and Elizabeth NEILL, 63, d 1961, CAUL (Caulfield?), #1655
*Victor James SCOTT, James and Florence HOWARTH, 64, d 1962, MARY (Maryborough? Marysville?), #10394
*James SCOTT, Peter and Margaret SWANSTON, 69, d 1964, COBU (Coburg?), #11980

Do you see any others?

Anyway, very fortunately Daniel and Susan jnr don't seem to be in the 1985 and earlier deaths.

Regards,

JAP

PS: I'm actually not too impressed by the lack of privacy in the Victoria online records :'(   It's not just that all my grandparents are there easily accessible online but also both my parents and also my only sibling!

WOW  gennig !!

I received Susan's death certificate this morning - I didn't expect it would be so quick.

As you say, this has now given me her address, which is the same as her daughter-in-law's (who certified the death), and confirmed the name of her late husband, and children

As we can't access marriage records etc., what would be the best way to proceed now please ??

Hi Mobo,

Butting in again ...

My suggestion would be that you post Susan's date of death and burial place.

Also (though preferably by PM given that it is relatively recently) the address which was also that of her daughter-in-law who was the informant.

The former, as Genni said, will permit her to search for newspaper notices (which might reveal Susan jnr's married name and information about grandchildren of both Susan jnr and Daniel), cemetery records (some of which are online), etc etc.

There's also the possibility of searching in the Australian (telephone) White Pages - unfortunately they are not Australia-wide but by State and are at:
http://www.whitepages.com.au
(Oh dear, I just tried it - not working and says it is undergoing an upgrade ::)  Hmmm-mmm.  Our main telco -  Telstra - is in the news at present and far from positively.)

Cheers,

JAP

Hi Mobo,

I'm not sure what Genni has access to - I can easily access only the Pioneers Index (to 1888) and the Deaths Index (1921-1985).

It may well be that births, marriages and deaths information later than that which is available on the so-called Historical Indexes might be able to accessed on request (possibly with reasons)?

I quess you would have to check this out with the Victorian BDM people at:

Good luck,

JAP

Hi Mobo

Australian birth and marriage records for the time period required are not accessible without proof of identification.

In other words only the people concerned can access the records.  Genni

JAP
As Genni says, these can't be acessed without proof of identity.

Thanks anyway
