Mary Jane Cullen b c1836 - 'Derry' / 'Tyrone' (living in Scotland)
« on: Tuesday 12 April 22 16:19 BST (UK) »
Please excuse my lack of knowledge of Irish place names/counties etc.  ;D

Mary Jane Cullen b c1836 Ireland (no baptism found)

1855 - Desertmartin, Derry on son John's BC

1887 - Co. Tyrone on a Poor Law application

Is Derry a Barony?

I have also seen Loughinsholin as a Barony in Londonderry

My question is, how do I actually record the PoB as the above creates a county within a county which is confusing?

ATM - I have Desertmartin, Derry, Londonderry, Co. Tyrone, Ireland

Usually townland + civil parish + county would show a location in Ireland.
R.C. Parishes are different from Civil Parishes. There is an R.C. parish Desertmartin and Kilcronaghan- not sure if residence of parents (townland) is recorded in 1855 but you can check.

This is a great site for finding townlands, etc. in Ireland- the Poor Law Union (PLU) is usually the same as the civil registration district which is helpful to know when searching for civil registrations (births, marriages, deaths)

Thanks aghadowey for your replies & links & my apologies on not being clear enough...

The family 1st appear on the 1851 Scottish census as b Ireland, more specific PoB recorded on Scottish records post 1851...

1855 - Desertmartin, Derry on son John's BC (Scotland)

1887 - Co. Tyrone on a Poor Law application (Scotland)
