WW1 Discharge Date Please ?
« on: Wednesday 13 April 22 12:36 BST (UK) »
CQMS 151 Leo Kelly of 1/8th Irish King's Liverpool Regt
Great Medal Index Card
1914/15 Star Card implies Discharged date 28 April 1916
His Silver War Badge Card number 97197 also confirms 28 April 1916 awarded and Discharged date.
But his Family however query Discharge recorded which they hadn't seen the Cards before.
They have a Certificate showing Signed by the King as Discharged date April 1919
Can you explain?
Why does it state 151 ?  when his Serial number had been updated by 1919 ?

Where have you seen this?
To answer your question I would suggest the cert. is wrong as all other info
says otherwise.
Also the low SWB number indicates an earlier date than 1919.
In addition 1919 SWB numbers where different having prefix "B".

He re-joined.
The 3757196 is a post 1920 number amongst the batch
issued to the KLR.
In fact he may have re-joined twice as he has a third number N/6006.

Did he stay 151 from 1916 when SIilver Badge awarded to April 1919 Certificate
then N/6006
Then 3757196 after 1920 ?

Silver War Badge 97197 so why 28 April 1916  or April 1919 ?
Under 151 ?

He would have been no. 151 up to his discharge.
After re-joining he would have been given a new number.
Not knowing when he re-joined makes it impossible to say when that was.
The cert would have been sent to him some time after receiving his SWB, it might
have been as late as 1918 but would have had the number he used at the time of discharge.
I think the 1919 date is an admin. cockup.
Although it's difficult to read between the lines & not always advisable it's possible he
never went overseas again but was re-graded B3/4 meaning fit to serve but only in the UK.
As recruitment dried up many discharged men were looked at again & invited to re-join for home service.
As he served post 1920 his NOK could send for his record which should have his WW1 service
included.
