Can Someone Give a Long Detailed History of Ireland?
« on: Thursday 14 April 22 05:16 BST (UK) »
I am Curious about the timeline of Ireland. This is what I would like with it:
                 1.Records
                 2.Citations
                 3.Opinions

    Thanks,

Can you be more specific?

Records?
Resources? Do you mean availability of records related to family history? Births, deaths marriages, census etc etc? What time frames they are available for, what counties, and whereabouts they can be found?

Citations?
Presumably related to the records?

Opinions?
Opinions related to what? What people here think of the usefulness of the available records?
Or opinions about something else?

Timeline of Ireland? Do you mean the timeline of the available records related to family history research in Ireland? Or do you mean another sort of time line, and if so, between what sort of dates or eras? Is there a particular county/counties in Ireland that are of interest?

I would think that an internet search will give you answers to most of the above.

Depending on what you are looking for some of the following may help:

My best answer to the question posed in the topic title is "Ireland: A History" by Robert Kee, published 1980. Revised edition 1994 - reviewed on Good Reads website
 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/948323.Ireland
I have his longer work in 3 volumes which was the basis for his 13 part TV series "Ireland - A Television History". The TV series is on You Tube.

Feargal Keane wrote and presented a 5 part TV series "The Story of Ireland" on BBC 1 last year. Some episodes are on BBC IPlayer. It seemed to deal with events quickly.

Brief histories of Ireland online includes "The History of Ireland"  on" Discovery Ireland" website
https://www.discoveringireland.com/the-history-of-ireland/

Partition of Ireland

"The Partition of Ireland: A Short History"
https://theculturetrip.com/europe/ireland/articles/the-partition-of-ireland-a-short-history/

"The Partition of Ireland"
https://alphahistory.com/northernireland/partition-of-ireland/
This focuses mainly on Northern Ireland. There's a "Key Points" section at end of article.
Lots more stuff in contents - maps, booklist.

The partition and the civil war in the Irish Free State both have serious effects on Irish family history research.

There's plenty more written and online. Care is needed to avoid partisan accounts or at least to recognise if they are biased.

Some interesting links there thanks Kiltaglassan and MS.  :)

You’ve been online posting on other threads Lucas. Do you have any responses or answers to the questions asked here, or is everyone wasting their time trying to help you?
