Abraham BAGNALL
« on: Friday 15 April 22 01:54 BST (UK) »
Hello Team,

I'm on the hunt for the baptism of Abraham BAGNALL.  From census he states he was born in Shropshire between 1801 (1851 census) and 1803 (1861 census), no town of village mentioned, just Shropshire.

Abraham married at Sedgley, Staffs to Elizabeth STEVENSON on 29 Aug 1825.  I have not seen this certificate for witnesses. All issue born in Staffs, I think.
1841. Resident of Bilston near Wolverhampton.  Can't make out Occupation.
1851. Resident of Darlaston.  Miner.
1861. Resident of Bloxwich.  Coal Miner.
He was buried at Bloxwich 19 Apr 1867.

Online tree's have him born in Ireland and all over the place so any assistance is appreciated as always.  There is a possibility there is an Abraham BAGNALL who WAS born in Ireland at a similar time possibly ending up in New South Wales.

Best,

bitzar.

Doesn't help with where he came from, however of possible interest there is a newspaper item about a riot in a colliery in West Bromwich which mentions an Abraham BAGNALL as one of the 18 rioters. They pleaded guilty but were recommended for leniency. Happy to send you a copy if don't have access.

The marriage is on FreeReg
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5f58384ef493fd3a937b4a9e

Both of Sedgley and neither could sign. Witnesses James BAGNALL and John NEWTON. (John NEWTON appears to witness many marriages around this time).

Just a possibility:
a James BAGNALL married Mary Ann EVANS at Sedgley on 28 June 1819, witnesses - William BAGNALL and John NEWTON.

Thanks Maddy52

I currently don't have access so that info would be appreciated.  I do recall now he was fined for rioting in 1832 against the 'tommy' system.  I don't know the particulars though.

I wonder what relation James BAGNALL is?!

Thanks again.

bitzar.

This may not help with your search but it is worth noting that until 1844 there was a detached part of Shropshire around Halesowen in the Black Country. This is much nearer to the census places listed.

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)
