Looking for relevant information on William GILLESPIE dob abt 1870 & family.
Wife was Janet Beattie dob abt 1874.
I know nothing else about these 2 people.
Would also be interested in any family.
This information is from the 1901 census
The area would be around Tinwald,Dumfries & Kirkcudbright

Hi Baldy,
you may want to have a look at www.national.archsrch.gov.za.  Once there run a search on your names, particularly in "cape town records" and "non-public records"...
Good luck

I have a marriage record for William and Janet and also the birth record for Janet and William. They were married in 1897 in Troqueer and the certificate shows William as being a Carter and Janet a domestic servant (cook). William's parents are listed as Thomas Gillespie and Jane (Leenan) i think.... and Janet's as James Beattie and Margaret Holmes. Hope this helps.

Hi Jay.
They appear to be the same people that I am researching.
If possible I would appreciate a copy of the certificates.
As I have quoted I know nothing else about them.

Do you need my email address??

Baldy,

From the IGI:
James BEATTIE m Maggie HOLMES, 1870, Irongray KKD
They had (at least):
Margaret McMinnies BEATTIE, 1871, Irongray KKD
Janet Callendar BEATTIE, 1873, Lochrutton, KKD

However, I then checked on previous threads and, though you say above that you know nothing else about William GILLESPIE and his wife Janet BEATTIE, I note that there is much information - particularly about the ancestry of Janet (BEATTIE) GILLESPIE - on the following thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,167808.0.html

The 1870 marriage of James BEATTIE & Maggie HOLMES is mentioned on that thread, and that you have the 1923 death certificate for James which shows that his daughter, Janet GILLESPIE, was present at his death.

Hi Jap.
Thanks for the jab in the rear.I had forgotten about the previous threads.
I am restarting my research after a "little" time off.
After reading them (again) I do have info on Janet. It should have been put :-in reference to William Gillespie & their offsprings?
