In 1851 Peter 32  & Ann 36 are in Midlothian with sons Peter 5 & John 3.  Children b Midlothian

Peter & Ann are both shown as b Caithness  ED 76 Page 7 Line 2

In 1861 & 1871- he is in Glasgow - b Sutherland

Your opening post says Peters birth was not registered "according to his second marriage cert".  When & where was his second marriage & who did he marry?

To confirm his parentage - look for his death & download a copy of his death cert
Thanks for your reply.

I have attached the record of Peter's second marriage to Ann Larnoch June 8 1855, Tradeston,Glasgow,Lanark,Scotland

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I do have the records that trace the descendants of Peter Morison and Barbara McLeod. I am a direct descendant of both.

I am seeking information on how to trace Peter and Barbara further back. I think they were born around 1780/90's maybe in Sutherland, but perhaps on one of the Islands.

Unfortunately, the Eddrachilis parish records don't go that far back; they start early in the 19th century. Do I understand that the minister does not refer to either of them in the marriage record by use of a patronymic or other parental identifier? That's the way to trace some families further back in the neighbouring parish of Durness

There were four Barbara Macleods born in Durness in that period.

As far as I am aware, 1855, the first year of official Birth, Death and Marriage registration in Scotland, is the only year a Marriage Certificate would state whether a birth was registered or not.

I've seen 100s of 1855 certs. & it's vey doubtful a marriage cert. would state a birth/baptism hadn't been registered.

An 1855 DC lists the names of children (alive/dec'd) with ages (of living) & ages at time of death with death year .

Image an example of an 1855 DC listing the children.
