Cross Roads, Knockando
« on: Monday 18 April 22 17:20 BST (UK) »
Alexander Grant 1787 - 1791 was a weaver; he was born and lived in Knockando, Morayshire.

In 1841/1851 his abode was Cross Roads.
1861 abode Cottage Roadside.

Can anyone identify the area where Cross Roads might have been?

Look a little above the second K in the large parish name and a little to the left. If the link works it should be in the middle of the screen.

It's still there but it's now called Heatherbell Cottage.

https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ1844 and click on the map to enlarge it.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you so much Forfarian.

Alexander Grant died in 1878 and would you believe it his daughter Isabella married William Cumming. I managed to trace them many years ago and they were at Heatherbell Cottage Knockando 1881 - 1901 and maybe later.

I did some research many years ago for a friend, whose family came from the area and over time she has managed to find most of the places I recorded. Except Cross Roads but she had found the cottage, not realising they were both the same place.
We are meeting up at Grantown in a few weeks

Hi Colin

Reference here https://canmore.org.uk/site/156006/heatherbell-cottage to Crossroads being the alternative name for Heatherbell Cottage.

Reference to a William Cumming in the 1920 VRs:
