John EADES (1831-??) of Chewton Mendip
« on: Wednesday 20 April 22 14:36 BST (UK) »
Can someone help me find out where John EADES of Chewton Mendip was, at 10 years of age in 1841?

My ancestor James EADES was born in Chewton in 1826, his sister Maria in 1828, and their brother John in 1831. Their parents were John and Martha.

In 1841, mum and the two elder children have moved to Wells, where she has work: and John snr is still in Chewton, where he dies in July.  In 1851, James and John are living and working together (as draper assistants) in Wells.  And the rest of my James’s (difficult) life I can document fairly well.

But (g3uncle) John, not so much. I don't know when he died or where, but mainly: he seems to be neither in Wells nor in Chewton in 1841.

I’d like to find especially an 1841 census entry, and also a death record.

Johnson (Wimborne, East Dorset)
Hopkins (Roxburgh., Yorks.)
Kidd (Westmoreland)

Can't find John Eades in 1841. There is a baptism for him 18/4/1831 Chewton Mendip-Parents John and Martha-John is a Labourer and surname spelt Eads. Also baptism for Anna Maria Eads same details 18/11/1828. There is also a death on FreeBMD for a John Eades District Wells/Volume5c/Page437-Mar Qtr 1857, so you could get the death certificate and see if any of the family are mentioned as being present at his death.
Regards.

There are a few John EADES (or similar) who appear to not be  with  parents in the 1841 census. Have you ruled out this one at Ditcheat, Somerset (all born in County)?:

William VINCENT   45   farmer
Maria                      45
Sarah ORAM          28  female servant
John EADES           15 male servant

Thanks (a bit late) to all who helped above.  I haven't finished eliminating all, so this is still quite hopeful.
