Hi
The third child was Ruby Ellen Evans baptised 1 Jan 1902 at Chatham St John to John Robert and Jane Evans at 24 Old st.
She was buried 8th January 1902 at Chatham Cemetery age 3 months so she must have been ill.
On her birth registration her mother's maiden name is given as White.
So Jane seems to have been Hodges /White ,Jones,Hodges again then Evans.

Bede was baptised at the same church with the same address  7.4.1908.

I'm thinking the best lead at the moment  is to get the 1869 birth certificate,  then we can try to eliminate him from the enquiry. Particularly if there's a vague recollection of the surname in the family history.

A pdf certificate from the GRO is the cheapest way to proceed. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Thanks ciderdrinker,
I'd found Ruby Ellen before and told my dad and he was surprised as he'd never heard any mention of her even though it was his mothers sister. I suppose there was no need to speak of her back then as infant mortality was so high.
Thanks for the other information as I'd hit a bit of a dead end.
You're right about a small world. I found out that someone I work with is a cousin as we share the same G Grandmother. We were as shocked as each other.
