1851 Census Lythe or Stokesley
« on: Saturday 23 April 22 23:26 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone can help. I am looking for a couple in the 1851 census. I no longer use paid sites and I cannot find them on F.S
1841 Census. Address; Barnby West, Parish; Lythe, District; Whitby, Lythe.
Elizabeth Stonehouse  35
Christopher Stonehouse 15
Thomas Stonehouse 13
Anne Stonehouse 10  Ho107 piece/ Folio 1256/5 pg 4

1861 Census. Address;  Parish, Great Little Broughton, District; Stokesley.
Matthew Stonehouse  60 Jet Miner
Elizabeth Stonehouse 52
Christopher Stonehouse 34 Jet Miner
Jane Hind 4 Grandaughter   RG09  piece/folio 3657/35 pg2

In 1851 Christopher and Ann are living together in Barnby and Thomas is with his wife in Scalby, Scarborough.
I cannot find Matthew and Elizabeth. Matthew is also AWOL in 1841.

The Couple are
Matthew Stonehouse b 1800 Lythe & Elizabeth his wife. Her birth date is 1802-1808 born in Yorkshire.
Matthew died in 1872 Stokesley and Elizabeth died in 1892 Stokesley
Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
Carol

In 1851 Matthew is indexed as Matthew Stoneherrs but an amendment was notified in 2006.  When I checked who notified it - it was me ;D

He was in lodgings in Loftus

George Coats 27 b Guisborough alum miner
Mary 29 ?? Harrogate
George 1 b Loftus
Matthew Stoneherrs ( Stonehouse)    54 lodger - married  b Lythe iron miner

Look again at the 1851 census for her son Thomas and his wife in Scalby.    Elizabeth is shown with them as 'visitor' aged 49 born Staincher (?? that's what it looks like).

Got Her. Many Thanks. Living with Thomas And Mary in 1851.
Get my eyes tested on Tuesday the 26th. That may help in future.
Much appreciated

I have not bothered to look at the original but what Annette read as Stancher may be Stainsacre which is just east of Whitby.
