Sad, but then a happy ending.
« on: Thursday 28 April 22 15:34 BST (UK) »
William Elliott was an orphaned choirboy in Sunderland, 1897.  He left a handwritten note in a church in Sunderland, hiding it away in the pews.  It was found just recently and it was reported on BBC News/North East& Cumbria. The note asked that anyone finding it would think of him. Since the tv mention researchers have found that he emigrated to the USA at the age of 19 years, joined the US navy, serving in WWI/WWII and rose to the rank of Commander.
If you access the BBC site you will see a fuller picture than what I have posted.

A lot of research on this thread on Rootschat! I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned.

Many thanks for your posts and links.  Having seen the BBC item I thought it may have been something "fresh" and unknown, and may have been of interest to RootsChat members. But following the various links here there is much information about William.
It makes one wonder about life - who you are, where will it take you, and how you end up on the unknown road ?
