Is it SEALS or any chance its SCALES
They have just indexed the name as SEALES. You can see from the certificate that you have posted that the surname could be read as SCALES or SEALES.
Mary Helens own birth cert 1889 has an unusual change written by the Registry
She was born 25/12/1889 Reg in feb 1890 and in June the Registry has written in the middle of the record
" Brother in eighth column should read uncle" So what triggered that . ?
It is not unusual. The relationship of the informant should always be to the baby, not the parents. When asking the question, the registrar probably didn't specifically say 'to the baby' and he has just said 'brother' because he was registering the birth on his sister's behalf.

I agree with both statements by Debra.
Indexing errors are something which happens often.
If there's an indexing problem on SP (scotlandspeople), we can report it online & if it's obvious enough they will rectify it.
