Help w death record: Inga Halvorson
« on: Wednesday 04 May 22 15:25 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I'm looking for help today to find the death record for Inga Olava Halvorson (nee Nilsen). I am actually trying to trace a rare genetic mutation and would like to find Inga's cause of death.

Born October 18, 1872, in Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway. Immigrated to United States in 1896. Husband is Olaf or Ole Halvorson (spelling varies, Halverson, Halvorsen), children Arnold Norman and Hjalmer Sverre ( plus 2 children died young in Norway). Parents are not Peder and Marin Halvorson - there is a similar Inga.

We have a family record saying she died on August 14th, 1918 at the age of 46 in Fork, Marshall County Minnesota (there is a grave photo as well) Buried in Boe Cemetary Stephen, Marshall County, Minnesota, United States of America.

I would appreciate any assistance!

Thanks! I should also mention that I have combed the Minnesota Death record database using all kinds of spelling combinations, and wider date ranges, but I'm just not getting any results.

Only thing I can find that even mentions her death.

I wonder if this is Arnold Norman ... ?

It's not - he passed in Abbotsford, British Columbia. I met him once or twice.

Thank you! It does confirm the date and location of death then. I wonder if the record was just lost? By 1919 I assume most deaths were put on some type of record.

Marshall County Courthouse has birth, marriage and death records from 1882, divorce and probate records from 1891 and court records.

Link: https://www.co.marshall.mn.us/departments/recorder/index.php
Scroll down to "Vital Statistics" section.

ADDED:

The Recorder’s Office is a local Registrar of the Vital Records for Minnesota Department of Health.
For certified Birth and Death Certificates, an application proving tangible interest must be completed.

Fees for Death Certificates:
*Certified and non-certified copies - $13.00 for the first copy and $6.00 for each additional copy needed at the same time.

Maybe she actually died across the river in North Dakota.  Perhaps the nearest hospital was in, say, Grafton, ND.
