Carol, Walter's marriage to Elsie in 1925 was at St Andrew, Eccles, and is transcribed on Lancashire OPC.
You might like to take a look ;)

Thanks John- damn  ::)

I didn't know that website existed.

How did Walter get from Kent up to Lancs though?
And what happened to Bolton born Walter. ???

Hmm, more work to do tomorrow.

Our chap was born in Bolton in the March 1/4.

OAKLEY, WALTER       mmn LANGTON
GRO Reference: 1893  M Quarter in BOLTON  Volume 08C  Page 522

I think his parents are Enoch & Mary Ann

Walter Oakley Baptism 22 Mar 1893    Bolton, St Matthew, Lancashire
Father:   Enoch Oakley Mother:   Mary Ann

Parents marriage 13 Nov 1887 Bolton, St Matthew, Lancashire

Enoch Oakley age 25 , fish monger
Father:   Joseph Oakley, bricklayer

Mary Ann Langton age 29
Father Thomas, labourer

1901 c Folio:   67 Page Number:   33
Enoch Oakley   38 fish dealer
Mary Ann Oakley   42
Hannah Jane Langton 14
John Oakley   13
Elizabeth Oakley   11
Joseph Oakley   9
Walter Oakley   7 Bolton

Walter is with his widowed father Enoch living 70 Poplar Street Bolton in 1911

Yes that is the family we have traced back generations.

But now I am wondering if the Kent chap was correct- although 'ours' was born on 25th February I am still more inclined to go for the Bolton chap born in March 1893.Not the southerner born in june 93.

Thanks for all your suggestions, looks like I have some family history to re look at tomorrow !

Have a look at 1939 register Bolton
Walter Oakley bn 10 Feb 1893 he is single
Same address 1911c

Possible death for this Walter

Walter Oakley
Death Age:   57
Birth Date:   abt 1893
Registration Quarter:   Jan-Feb-Mar 1950
Registration District:   Bolton Lancashire
Volume:   10b Page:   751

Added - if you use the advanced search for the 1921 census using only the address 70 Poplar Street and Parish Bolton it appears that Walter Oakley bn 1893 Bolton is living at that address with Elizabeth Flanagan bn 1890, her surname is Hanagan on 1939 Register

The 1893 baptism of Walter parents Enoch Oakley & Mary on Lancashire OPC
edit to add address 70 Poplar Street Bolton

as are the baptisms of Walter Oakley & Elsie (nee Edmeston) two sons born 1928 & 1930

Just in case you don’t have this the burial in 1950 of first son at St. Mary the Virgin Churchyard

edit - given that the first son has middle name Warren, it's more than likely that his father Walter Oakely birth reg. is the 1893 Cranbrook with mmn Warren  :-\

Thanks everyone.

I have spent the last few days redoing the whole of this tree, who'd ever of thought there'd be 2 Walter Oakley's one born 10th Feb and one born 25th Feb,living fairly near each other.

Well at least we know that the correct Walter was indeed the one who was awarded medals in WW1.

Will close this query for now.

Carol
