baptism of Arthur FOSTER
« on: Monday 09 May 22 12:21 BST (UK) »
According to Family Search, Arthur FOSTER was baptised on 04 May 1784 at Alfold in Surrey, to Arthur and Ruth FOSTER. There is only a record, no image.

However, when I search for the image of the baptism in Ancestry's collection of CoE Baptisms, Marriages and Burials for Surrey 1538-1812, I can find no such baptisms.

Am I doing something stupid? I would really like a copy of the image of this baptism.

Hi
It's not in order and the page is absolutely awful.
Go to the volume and it's page 63 .
Left hand side half way down.
FindMyPast also has it on page 44 but I can't read that either. His sister in 1787 has the added word poor but that's it.
Fingers crossed you have better luck than me

My eyes must have gone, because despite your help I still can't see it. The LH page is certainly clearer than the RH, but it still eludes me.

The index on the page by Ancestry does not seem to have the name.

Did you mean the RH side?

I think it’s on the RH page.
Look for the centred heading 1784, and on the 6th line below that.

To my eye the only legible part is ...

... Son of Arthur & Ruth ...   Six pe[nce?]

The child's name could be Arthur, as the outline is similar to the father's name, but I can’t see the surname at all. To be honest, I'm not certain about Ruth either, though it looks possible.

Maybe someone with the right software can help make it legible?

Many thanks for your help, though I am afraid I am still finding it difficult. I can now see the place that you are suggesting, but it is far from clear. I am not sure how Family Search transcribed that entry. If some software could clean the image up that would be great, but I'm afraid it is beyond anything I possess as well as my skills.

As you will know, Ancestry have a strip beneath their images showing transcriptions. There is nothing in their transcriptions which remotely resembles "Arthur son of Arthur and Ruth Foster". This image is beyond me.

Any chance of anyone being able to make sense or enhance this image?
