Gertrude Harriotte Harris
« on: Tuesday 10 May 22 12:25 BST (UK) »
Gertrude Harriotte Harris was born 9th November 1902.  GRO has 1902 , 1939 Reg has 1904.

In 1911 the Harris family were living in Little Shelford Cambridge and all her siblings were born there.

Gertrude's birth was recorded as Long Aston 5c 549.  1911 census states Nailsea Somerset (nr Bristol)

Gertrude's mother, Annie Gertrude (mn Creighton) was born Morpeth Northumberland. I can't find her birth. Her father, George Stanley Harris, born Cambridge, was living in Newcastle in 1901.

George Stanley and Annie Gertrude married Bristol Q3 1902. George Stanley also listed at Cambridge

Can anyone see, Annie's birth, where she was living in 1891/1901 and where (and who with) were they living when Gertrude Herriotte was born.

For the record ...  Gertrude Harriotte married Noel L'angellier of my last post

Good Afternoon
Annie Gertrude Pye Creigton married at the Registery office in Bristol 1902  and she has her birth registered in Morpeth as Annie Pye Creighton Dec qtr 1882 10B 316
There is no mother's maiden name so it looks like she was illegitimate.

1891 7 Kins head Yard Morpeth
Ellen Creighton 70 widow Ireland
Mary 30 single dau general servant  Morpeth
Michael 27 son single gen lab Morpeth
Margaret 14 daughter Morpeth
Catherine 11 scholar Morpeth
Ann 8 daughter scholar Morpeth
Dorothy g Murrey 10 granddaughter Morpeth

Obviously she can't actually be Ellen's daughter. Her mother is probably the eldest daughter Mary .
Grandfather was a John Creighton rags dealer from Ireland born 1811 and granny's maiden naem is Gaughan

I'll see what else I can find

Baptism 17 Dec 1882 St Roberts RC Morpeth
Anna Pye Creighton dau of Maria Creighton names probably Latin versions as RC, so Ann and Mary.

1881 census more correctly Catherine and Margaret described as granchildren of widowed Ellen Creighton. Margaret registration as Margaret Isabella 1876 also illegitimate.

Michael Creighton from gro 1860 birth ref mmn Ganghan

Pye could be clue to father's name

She was born Long Ashton (not Long Aston).

From what I can see, Annie Creighton was illegitimate and lived with her grandmother Ellen.   Her birth is registered as Annie Pye Creighton - in 1891 she shows as Ann, and in 1901 as Nancy living with her sister Madge Hall in Jesmond.   Madge was born as Margaret Isabella Creighton in 1876, again, illegitimate.

Margaret Isabella bp.13/9/1876 Morpeth, dau. of Maria.
Annie Pye bp.17/12/1882 Morpeth dau. of Maria.

I note that Annie married as Annie Gertrude P. Creighton - 'Gertrude' seems to have been added by Annie and guessing the 'P' stands for Pye.

Thanks for all for looking.
I think Annie was just 18/19 years old when she married and about 6 months pregnant. George and Annie were both living in/near Newcastle in 1901. Maybe they "ran away" to get married, stayed a short time near Bristol, before moving to Cambridge (Little Shelford).
Can anyone explain why George was listed in both Cambridge and Bristol for his marriage?

The Cambridge registration  marriage seems to be to a Bessie M Harvey. Could be a coincidence eg two GS Harris's, or a mistake in the GRO register index. might be worth getting the certificate to see what it says !
