I'm not fully up on what the situation is now. I seem to think that they are in the process of being transferred to the National Archives who will the field any requests. Someone else here/some research may know more.

The plot just thickened a bit with regard to this.

Having asked around, I've managed to get hold of John Andrew CRUDDAS' WW1 Army Discharge Papers (see attached). As well as stating that he received 3 wound stripes - though I've not found any evidence of these - and 2 'Overseas' Chevrons, it states that at his discharge in December,1918, he had served 9-years, 10-days 'with the Colours'. Putting his enlistment at the end of November,1909, when he was 18-years-old.

Now this clearly isn't correct - as I've said he was living and working in Newcastle-upon-Tyne at the time of the 1911 Census.

So - does anyone know if 'with the Colours' would include pre-War service with the Special Reserve ? Or if the 9-years might just have been wrong ?
