Many thanks to both of you.

This is a complex family, the help of everyone on here has been invaluable.  The hidden school record gave the vital clue.

The birth certificate has been ordered.

The birth certificate has arrived (speedy service from GRO).

The date of birth doesn't match  :-\ - it's 14 March 1910.

Name Peter Eric Milde, no father is listed.

Mother is Eleanor Spencer otherwise Milde, formerly Garvan

In reply 5 (the school record) the day of birth is blank. They only have month and year, whereas all the other children have the full info.  So I am inclined to think that there is room to accept that the actual date of birth was incorrectly passed on.
Not 100% satisfactory, I know.  But given the fact His mother denies his existence in 1911 entirely probable.

I agree, not entirely satisfactory but everything else fits.

I can't see anything in the Fulham Board of Guardians records.

Would there be any records for May Bank Children's Home where Peter was staying in 1911?

It must have been a very late registration, as it was in the July-Sep quarter.
Have you got the address?

Eleanor's residence was 43 Redcliffe Road, South Kensington.

I think Eleanor Milde might have been in Redcliffe Road in the census in 1911, having checked what the enumerator has written!
A Kensington Directory for 1911 has Henry J Pallister, restaurant, at 43.

Edith Mary Fell, principal of the Twickenham school, is in the Kent newspapers in September 1911. An inquest into the death of Edmund Penrose MacMullen, one of the children in her charge.
They were in Whitstable for a holiday.

Does anyone have any ideas about the name Von Richthofen which he seemed to have dropped and the middle name Seaton that he gained?
