William Charles FENN (1850- )
« on: Friday 13 May 22 17:56 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I need some help verifying information I have found.  My 1st cousin 4X emoved William Charles Fenn was born on 28th June 1850 at White Cottage, Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth.   His mother was Elizabeth Caroline Fenn.   His birth certificate records his name as William Charles Strange Fenn.  I have been unable to find him (or his mother) on the 1851 census, but in 1861 he was living with his grandmother Martha Fenn and aunt Emma Brackstone at 7 Pleasant Place, Lambeth.   I found a baptismal record for him in 1857 - 11 September at St Mary's Lambeth.

I have found trees that suggest he married Jane Arkinstall (born 1869 - Alderney, Channel Islands) in Alverstoke, Hampshire in 1887 and had a family.   There is a William Fenn married to Jane, with two children Ethel and William living in Alverstoke at the District Military Hospital and he is listed as being in charge of the steam engine. William is listed as born in Vauxhall, Surrey.   The 1901 Census has the family living in Tilshead, Wiltshire with another daughter Elizabeth, but there is also an Emma Wiltshire living with them aged 52 a widow who is occupation is listed as housekeeper for son.  The William married to Jane dies in 1910, so I have no information beyond 1891.  He died in Shoeburyness, Essex.

There just seems to be nothing apart from age and place of birth that ties my William to the William married to Jane Arkinstall.   Can anyone help prove or disprove the information I have?

Many thanks

EM

There does not seem to be a parish marriage record entry for William and Jane, so it seems they might have married in the register office.

Have you considered getting the marriage certificate?  It might eliminate the couple, or it might crack the problem.
