Redbourn Parish records
« on: Saturday 14 May 22 11:51 BST (UK) »
I am afraid this is a very awkward one, I am looking for any Rachel, (Rachael) born in Redbourn between 1805 and 1807. From 1841 to 1871 she is living with John Smith 1790/1874 in Hemel Hempstead. No marriage found.
John was originally married to Jane Godwin (I have her parents) who will have died between 1829 and 1836 no death found.
I have all the Smith children from both partners but myself and many others have hit a total brick wall with the other details. Thanks for any help, regards, Pete

Have you tried FREEREG?

A quick search there for Bp for Rachel 1802-1810 gives 16 females (including surrounding area)

Only 1 specifically in Redbourn that of Rachel Jackson but she may have married in 1824 (George Munt)

You'll need to follow each and see if they married or died to eliminate them.

Hello Pete
The only Rachel is a Rachel Jackson bapt 8.4.1804 d of Thomas and Mary Jackson.
Siblings
James 12.4.1789
William 19.6.1791
Diana 9.8.1795
John 7.11.1796
Elizabeth 19.1.1800
Sarah 7.6.1801
Thomas 25.1.1807

Rachel married George Munt 2.3.1824 at Redbourn
both of this parish and wit Mathew and Maria Munt.

George must have died because in 28.12.1831 she remarries -Rachel Munt widow to George Kingham widower .
wit William Bills ,Sarah Jones and Moses Moody

Which is great until she turns up on the 1851 census with George Kingham

Me again
There is a baptism for their daughter Mary Smith 13.6.1836 of Two Water Hempel Hempstead d of John Smith baker of 2 Waters Hemel Hempstead and Mary  d of John George farmer in Redbourn in the County of Hertfordshire.

Baptsim for her is slightly later than said on census
Rachel Ann George d of John and Mary George farmer 8.8.1815

Siblings James born 12.6.1803 and Benjamin born 26.10.1799  bapt at Hemel Hampsted 1.6.1828

So the couple did delay their kids baptisms quite a bit

Beat me to it

Thanks Trish, I have now found a marriage for Rachel George 30 Nov 1829 in Hemel Hempstead to a John Hill but no original document, I wonder if this is John Smith wrongly transcribed as it fits perfectly.

The image for the HH marriage is available on FindMyPast.  The marriage was by Licence, and both signed the register.  Definitely John Hill, bachelor.  John George and Elizabeth Newton were the witnesses.

ADDED:  Bride and groom both said to be "of this parish" = Hemel Hempstead.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
