Death Inquest Decipher Caledonia Gully AUS 1861
« on: Saturday 21 May 22 11:33 BST (UK) »
I Have found a relative went to Australia (Alfred waite warner 1825-1857)- I cant find out the reason why, a Criminal perhaps? hmm ???. But I've found that He married & had children. One of the Children Alfred George Warner 1858-1861 was found dead at the Caledonia Gully, Victoria, AUS. I have found that it was a some sort of gold mine? I've found a letter written by his mother Rebecca Warner on her account of his death. Can anyone Decipher it?

Thank you!

He was (perhaps briefly) a seaman. One engagement recorded: deserted ship at Adelaide in June 1853 (it's in the 1853 column but looks more like 1852).

Not a letter but a sworn deposition taken as evidence at the inquest. She says she is a widow and the child's mother. The boy left her tent at about 4.30 pm on the 18th and she never saw him alive again. At about 6pm she found him in a diggers hole about 60 yards away, lying dead in three feet of water. No marks of violence on the body.
