Kloumann,

I have seen both the 1901 & 1911 census. I have real doubts about the ages given on the forms.

in 1901, Jeremiah (house 11) is listed as 65. In 1911, J in same house is 84. They could be two separate Jeremiahs, but it seems unlikely.

Thank very much,

Dan

Ages at that time are not reliable. There was no reason to know exact ages until, about that time, the old age pension was introduced. Often, then ages were inflated. I think that’s about right but there are threads on here discussing this.

Here is a likely death for the Jeremiah in 1911 census - death 1912

The informant is Daniel Doody, brother.

I confess to being confused about the civil regs. I have seen Newcastle West for the births, but would not have looked at Abbeyfeale. I would have thought that one office would handled everything.

See Shane Wilson's webpage for a good explanation - https://www.swilson.info/regdistmap.php

Civil Registration Districts, or more correctly Superintendent Registrar's Districts, were used as the areas for civil registration of Births, Marriages & Death. These districts were based on the 138 Poor Law Unions which had been set up by the Irish Poor Law Act of 1838, with several further, about 30, being added soon after. Each of these districts was further divided into sub-districts based on the ~720 Dispensary districts, which had been established soon after the Poor Law Unions. These were referred to as Registrar's Districts.

SRD= Superintendent Registrar's District - Newcastle (Newcastle West)
RD= Registrar's District - (Abbeyfeale)

Kloumann,

After being given Mary Sullivan's death registration from Abbeyfeale, I was going to look for Jeremiah's there also. You found it. Thank you again.

As for Michael, I am hesitant to make assumptions. I had a lot of trouble with a Jeremiah Doody and a Mary Sullivan who were married in Killeentierna parish and who lived in Killarney. I am also aware of another Jeremiah Doody from NE Kerry. There are too many Doody's running around the area to make quick assumptions. Are they numerous in the area today?

I had made a note of a Daniel Doody baptized in Killeedy parish in 1841. I wonder if he was the brother you found on Jeremiah's death reg or the Daniel you found in the 1911 census or both. Earlier I would have written him off as too old.

I have some more searching to do. You have provided the area to explore.

I really do appreciate you helping me like this,

Dan
