signatures - one from M & M register and second from marriage in 1849

No baptism found at present for that birth date.

Note that on one of the certificates, the name is recorded as Jenkin Owen Williams.

I recall on one of the marine deaths that osprey found that it said 'father of Llanarth. I;ve found this baptism entry in the Llanarth parish records. Unfortunately no birth date:

May 25 1827

Jenkin Williams, s of Evan (farmer)  and Madalen, Llwyncelyn

It's only an outside possibly and allows for John=Evan . My father was an Evan but was never called John- but we're from North Wales   :D

Thanks so much again all, lots to review and digest.
I have found some more info on the Atlantic for anyone who may also be interested.
It was owned by David Evans of Ffos-y-ffin.  Five were lost on the board including Evan Evans from Cardiganshire who was only 16.
It was a sail boat of 89 tonnes. Official number 42585.
Jenkin and John had sailed on it several times before from when John was 15.
The voyages seemed to last 3-4 months.  On the fateful voyage they departed on 4th Jan.
This is all from crewlist.org.uk which looks generally informative for anyone interested in mariners.
