Workhouse Records
« on: Wednesday 25 May 22 22:40 BST (UK) »
I Have found my Grandfather in the Mint Street workhouse with his mother and two brothers. Does anyone know where I could find any records of how they ended up there. There is no entry in respect of my Great Grandfather.
I am going to London soon but am not sure where to look.

I have asked the moderator to move your post to the Surrey board.  Mint St WH was in Southwark Surrey

Might be an idea to give us some details - names, birthyear, dates of admission etc. as we may be able to help

Have you viewed the actual WH admission sheet as that sometimes shows reason for admission - or have you just found them on an index?

Thank you.
Her name was Mary Ann Brown aged 40 a hat trimmer.
She was admitted to St Saviours Surrey on 4 th /12/1886.
With her son's Henry aged 10
William aged 4
Joseph aged 2
Joseph was my Grandfather.
I an find them leaving the workhouse and being admitted to St George's Work House Mint St on 24/3/1887 but I am unable to find anything that tells me why they ended up there.
I know what happened to Henry and Joseph but not their Mother or William

Hi Joseph married Sophia Ann Noble. His Father's name was Henry Charles Brown
He was born on 6th Nov 1884
Married 25th Dec 1912
His Mother's maiden name was Mary Ann Cook. I can't find any record of a marriage between Henry Brown and Mary Ann Cook.
I believe his brothers Henry and William were sent to the Hanwell boys school.
I have no idea what happened to either his Dad Henry or his brother William.
