Abbreviation in the Derby Evening Telegraph dated July 1942
« on: Saturday 28 May 22 03:21 BST (UK) »
On July 27, at 2 Arkwright Street, to Ivy (nee Everett), the wife of Leslie Dence, of 11 H.H.M. the welcome gift of a son. Does anyone know what H.H.M. means?

Looking around the newspapers, perhaps Holbrook Home Maternity.

As it was war time could it be something military, such as a Regiment?

I wondered the same as Pinetree.
Looking at the snippet, it just looks to be 11 H.M. -  rather than 11 H.H.M.  But I can’t see the whole entry to decide.

Thank you for your replies. I have the entire article and it definitely states "On July 27, at 2 Arkwright Street, to Ivy (nee Everett), the wife of Leslie Dence, of 11 H.H.M." At 2 Arkwright Street suggests a home birth so something military related does make sense. Unfortunately, I have found neither military records for Leslie Dence (born 1917), nor this abbreviation. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Best regards
Christine

The birth certificate would hopefully give further details re the father’s occupation as the reference applies to the father.

Somebody has rightfully pointed out that the 11 is not in the original text. My mistake. Still pondering over the abbreviation though...
