Acting Captain H. M Singer, 7th Dragoon Guards/8 East Lancs
« on: Monday 30 May 22 11:59 BST (UK) »
Am I being thick?
It ought to be easy to trace this man as he was in a prestige cavalry regiment before the war but so far I have failed even to discover what his full first names were!
H. M. Singer was serving in 7th Dragoon Guards in 1911, when he was promoted to lieutenant, but resigned his commission the following year. He returned to the army in 1914 (though I haven't found written proof of this, because I can't find his service record) and in 1916 was an acting captain in the 8th East Lancs. In that year he was court-martialled for 'gross indecency' (homosexual acts) and sent to prison for two years with hard labour.
If anyone can trace him before or after 1916 I'd be very glad to hear from you, particularly if you can locate his service record -- but all help much appreciated.

I've only just realised Herbert Montrose was one of the children of Paris Eugene Singer, lover of Isadora Duncan and famously wealthy society gentleman!

In Birmingham in the 1921 census (Herbert Mantrose Singer).
