The war diary for the 67th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery is currently available online for free through the National Archives. You'll need to register an account, but once you have done so you'll be able to download the war diary for no charge. This will contain a daily record of the battery's actions, and will allow you to find out exactly what happened on the day he died. Most war dairies only mention officers by name, but you may get lucky.

Edited to add that unfortunately a quick look at the diary shows that it is incredibly light on information between October 1916 and April 1917, entire months are described in one or two sentences.
