Messers Chambers factory, Carlisle
« on: Thursday 02 June 22 18:33 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have been going through an old newspaper report, from 1845, and someone makes a reference to a Messers Chambers factory.

I'm assuming that means a factory belonging to a couple of people by the name of Mr Chambers.

I've tried looking online and in the papers for further reference to it, but I can't find anything. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever heard of it?

Thank you

The Carlisle Patriot in 1845 makes several references to Chambers' Dye works.

In 1851 there is a George Chambers-  A Dyer, born 1818, living in Castle Street , Carlisle.

Thank you so much. I never thought to search for 'works'. That is a huge help.

Not sure whether this is related, but there is a building in Castle Street that still has old signage on the walls for a dye works.

There is also a reference in the 1859 Carlisle Journal for Chambers Dying at 18 Castle Street.  The reference above is for 12 Castle Street, but that street has changed substantially over the last 150 years, it is possible that what was formerly 18 is now 12.
