The above gentlemen were radical dissenters and their activities are in the DNB. They bear my surname and during the ‘Commonwealth’ period, Joseph Hallett (I) was admitted to the rectory of
Chiselborough with West Chinnock, Somerset, which is where a number of my ancestors came from.
Joseph Hallett (I) held the ‘living’ for four years and it is entirely possible that his son
Joseph (II) and indeed some of his other children may have been baptised there. When the
Restoration came in 1660, the previous incumbent, Gauler, was restored and Joseph (I) was thrown out.
I have been trying to expand on the (Joseph's) Hallett family tree in the West Chinnock area to see whether there is any link with my lot which starts with George Hallett (bp 1645, m 1668? Jane?) who had six children: Jane (1668) Joanne (1671) John (1674) George (my ancestor bp1677 m Mary Haggett 1698 bur1749) Suzanna (1679) Samuel (1683) all in the nearby parish of Merriot.
