Can't find death in scotlandspeople site
« on: Tuesday 07 June 22 15:15 BST (UK) »
There is a death announcement in the Fife Herald of 13 Feb 1889 as follows: "At 23 Gardners Crescent on the 8th inst Eliza Hunter widow of John Livingstone SSC (of Wight & Livingstone ) Edinburgh. Her name is on the gravestone in Dean Cemetery along with that of her husband. I've tried all sorts of searches but have been unable to find this death on the scotlandspeople website. I know 2 of her children emigrated but the newspaper announcement infers she died in Edinburgh. Any ideas?

How old would she have been in 1889

Announcement in the Fife Herald does not infer she died in Edinburgh.   It states husbands name & his firm which was in Edinburgh   Why an announcement in a Fife newspaper if she died in Edinburgh?

Is Gardeners Crescent in Fife or Edinburgh?

I've used wide search terms, are you sure of all the information that you've given? And, as Carole says, some idea of her age/DOB would help.

SP have changed their search categories so it could be that  :-\

Have you already checked out the Elizabeth Livingston (no e) death in 1889 - mmn Hynd.  Age is 10yrs out but there is no match for that name with an 1832 birthyear on the 1881.

Eliza was an annuitant in 1881 - husband was a solicitor.  Did she leave a will?

Is Gardeners Crescent in Fife or Edinburgh?

There is certainly a Gardners Crescent listed in the Edinburgh Post Office Directory and although there is a Gardeners land and Gardeners Street in Dunfermline where there are 2 records of deaths of Elizabeth Hunter, (aged 75 & 76 both with mothers maiden name of Sneddon), in 1889 there is no Gardeners Crescent listed. (424/ 370 & 424/ 416)

There is a 75 yr old Elizabeth Hunter who died in Leith South in 1889 ( 692/2 821) mothers maiden name of Gillespie.

The newspaper announcement definitely says Edinburgh, Falkyrn, and it shows up on Google maps.
