There's an Elizabeth Hunter, aged 69, d Newington in 1889. No other information.  I'm out of credits.

The newspaper report does use her maiden name (in the Scots tradition), widow of ......

Gardners Crescent http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=158669365

In 1889 it was in the Registration District of St George's.

It's a mystery  :-\

Do we know whether her daughter, Eliza, married in the 1880s and possibly moved to Fife? Her mother might have been visiting from Edinburgh and she died there. Thus the newspaper announcement was written in that form.

Just an idea. I've not looked for deaths in Fife.

They were Lodging at 170 Hill Street, Duddingston, Portobello in 1881.

Same here  :-\

No wills either.  There are about 9 online trees but none have a death for her. Two or three of the children are down as moving to Oregon. Nothing more on daughter Eliza.

I am wondering it if could be misindexing, or perhaps a page of the register got missed out when they were indexing it?

It would be easy enough to check if one were in the Scotland's People Centre.

In 1885 (VRs) she's a tenant at  6 Summerhill Square, St Cuthberts

She does seem to be moving around!!

add - However, there are similar named tenants, in central Edinburgh in 1895/1905.
