Help with deciphering birthplace
« on: Wednesday 08 June 22 22:03 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help decipher this birthplace from the 1871 England Census for my 4x Great-Grandmother. In later records, she gives her birthplace as Warwickshire. It has been transcribed as Wiltshire.

I think the second word is Tulburstow - after Googling, Tilburstow in Surrey comes up as the closest in spelling, but it's nowhere near Wiltshire or Warwickshire!

I know the quality isn't great but it wouldn't let me upload a high resolution image.

Her name was Mary Ann Jeffery and she was born in approx. 1849. In the 1871 England Census she is listed under her married name, Mary Ann Heath at 49 John Street in Deptford.

Thank you in advance :)

Thank you for your reply  :)

In the later census records, it is only recorded as Warwickshire. I haven't been able to find any records for before 1871 which is why I'm trying to figure out the birthplace from the 1871 census. I know her father was called John Jeffery. I've found potential records in Warwickshire but the birthplace appearing to say Tilburstow in 1871 is making me wonder if it was actually elsewhere.

When she married Henry Joshua Heath in 1866 both are shown as "full age" but 1871 shows him as 23 & her as 22

looking at her birthplace on the entry - I think it is definitely Warwickshire but the actual place is a mystery

I had noticed this too - I thought it odd but people seemed to lie a lot back then!

Thank you, I will go with it being Warwickshire and see where it takes me then  :)

I have just gone through all the places starting with T on the Genuki Index & there are actually very few in Warwickshire.  The only one long shot was Tredington

Thank you, I've just found this record too! I can't find the family in 1861, or any birth records in the right area either. From one problem to another!
