baggsy,

As for Alfred I must admit I'm struggling to find him pre 8.3.1867 when he joined the 66th Regiment in Aldershot. His military records are pretty comprehensive detailing his marriage to Mary Smith and the dates of his children's births up to Glady's in 1900.

His occupation when he joined was recorded as "Cooper" the same as his "Alleged" father Thomas. It also says he was born in Windsor, no details though of parentage. He was aged 19 when he enlisted.

John

added, your Alfred in 1871 census

WO 12/7522
Private Alfred Adams Service number 1057
British Army, Worldwide Index 1871
66th (Berkshire) Regiment Of Foot
Detached at Hyderabad, India during April 1871
HQ location Kurrachee, India

Still trying to narrow down Alfred. Known facts-He always insists he is born Windsor

1867 enlisted aged 19 in Aldershot = c1848, born Windsor
1881 census aged 31 = c1850 Windsor
1891 family in Barracks cant find Alfred though
1901 census aged 51=c1850 Windsor
1911 census aged 64=1847 Windsor
1921 census free search aged 73= c1848Windsor, However recorded as Alfred John Adams

Death sq 1934 Reading aged 86 = c1848 Recored as Alfred john Adams on GRO
Index

There are no Alfred/Alfred John Adams births in Windsor between 1846-1851.
