What has he been transcribed as?
« on: Friday 10 June 22 23:04 BST (UK) »
Evening all.

Im trying to find Augustus Wallis born 1844 to Edward Wallis and Ann (Bishop). Born in Albury, I cant find him in 1851 and trying to work out what the name has been butchered to by the transcriber. In later census he is down as Agastus. Family has moved by 1861 to Broxted, Essex.

Can anyone help what I need to type into my search bar. Not sure how Id search by parish as im sure it must be possible but I dont know how.

Any advice appreciated.

David.

For reference this is the family in 1861
www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7CH-W53

The birthplace of Selby should read Takeley, Essex, the writing is difficult to read but baptisms at Takeley allowed me to recognise the place name.
Baptisms James 1846, Eliza 1849, Susan 1851 (28th September)

I also think the age for Elizabeth may be wrong and she may be Eliza and finally image on next page has two more children, Ann 1856 Albury and Sarah 1859 Broxted. I hope this helps someone to find him. Have you found any of the family in 1851?

I've tried every way I could think of, including searching for his parents and some of his siblings and found nothing.

I tried different names and wildcard searches, with no luck.

That does't meant they are not there of course.
;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*

Which website are you searching on?
Ancestry?
FamilySearch?
FindMyPast?
The Genealogist?

They all have their own transcriptions!

Census 1861 Ancestry
WALLIS Edward    45y   labourer     b. Broxted, Essex
WALLIS Ann         37y                    b. Albury, Herefordshire
WALLIS Augustus  14y     son          b. Albury, Herefordshire
WALLIS James       14y    son          b. Takley, Essex
WALLIS Elizabeth   15y    dau          b. Takley, Essex
WALLIS Susan         9y    dau          b. Takley, Essex
WALLIS Emma        7y     dau          b. Stortford, Hertfordshire
WALLIS Ann            5y    dau          b. Albury, Hertfordshire
WALLIS Sarah         2y     dau         b. Broxted, Essex

*I suspect that this is a blended family.....with/without marriage to find.
*Two children aged 14 years?
*Suspicious gap between Elizabeth, b ~ 1846, Essex,...and.....Susan, b. ~ 1852, Essex.

For Census, 1851, look in Essex for.....what?

GRO births
WALLIS, Augustus   mms.     BISHOP
1844  JunQ       Bishop-Stortford Union  Vol 06  Page 4

*If the mother of Augustus WALLIS is a BISHOP, I would not assume that she is Ann BISHOP.

*Where Ann is named as mother of WALLIS children in Census, 1861, I would not assume that she is Ann BISHOP.

The 1851 census for the whole of the Dunmow Registration District is missing.  I believe Takeley was in that district so that is probably why you cannot find him or his family.
