Middle name is a clan name
« on: Sunday 12 June 22 17:29 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone help.
My grans name was Jeanie Mackinnon Dunlop. But research has proved there is no link to the clan mckinnon. Does anyone alse know of anyone else who has used a clan name as a middle name.
Many thanks
Sarah

No, but I have many ancestors who have middles names which turn out to be surnames of relatives, friends,or even a local laird, doctor or minister, though.
Hope this helps.

Hi Flst
Thank you for the reply, I just could not think of why my great grandad give her the mckinnon. I thought it ment that maybe a family member was part of that clan.
Much appreciated xx

It was quite common to name people after doctors, teachers, family friends, etc. so often the middle name is no blood relationship to the family. It's possible she was named after someone called Jeanie Mackinnon.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi aghadowey
It's funny always believed its was my grans middle name. I was going to have a clan mckinnon tattoo in memory of a great lady. I am so pleased it was not done now.  :D
